Hi!

With so much to explore in the Hudson Valley, I provide some of my favorite places and must-sees in the area.

Mountain Brauhaus

If I had a dollar for every time someone told they had found "THE GERMAN" place in New York, I'd not only be stuffed of spaetzle, but I'd still be missing out on the best German Restaurant which I am lucky to have just mere minutes from my home. For those of you who have not yet had the opportunity of traveling to the Mountain Brauhaus in Gardiner, New York- to say you're missing out would be a nice way of saying, GO THERE NOW.

This restaurant which fills up quickly during peak months due its prime location nestled at the base of the Shawangunk Mountains, serving authentic German Cuisine with a side of family love. The Brauhaus has been run by one family since its inception in 1955. Whether full of avid hikers or bikers or food aficionados, this place has something for everyone.

The restaurant is divided into two areas- dining room and bar area- offering a different atmosphere for families or those looking for a more vivacious environment. I have been here far too many times to count, however each time I am pleased to find something that I have yet to try, thanks to their rotating specials. Dishes range from the ever classic Weiner schnitzel (Veal or Chicken) to a Spaetzle Primavera. I would be remiss to ignore my regular appetizer orders of the Reuben Strudel, Königsberger Klops and Ruben Strudel, just to name a few... For those who are not all about the beer, Mark maintains a great wine list and is always happy to provide suggestions. Fun seasonal cocktails are also available for when beer is just not gonna' cut it.

Of all the things that bring me back time and time again, I would have to credit the same family spirit that has carried it through for all these years. There is never a time where I do not feel the love of Mark and his family which is what any hungry, beer loving human searches for all the while.

Do yourself a favor, take a ride, take a hike but most importantly, work up a hearty appetite so you can try as many things on the menu as possible.
