Hi!

With so much to explore in the Hudson Valley, I provide some of my favorite places and must-sees in the area.

The Adelphi Hotel

The Adelphi Hotel

A couple of months ago, my uncles (who are undoubtedly some of my best friends) and I decided we just had to get away, if only for one night. Thinking of the places in the area that I had to visit, we settled on Saratoga Springs, just an hour north of my house. Saratoga Springs is best known as a hub for horse racing, home to the Saratoga Race Course, and well known for the mineral baths located in Saratoga Spa State Park (sign me up!). Our trip was off season but we were still able to enjoy the baths and dine at some amazing restaurants. Despite the fantastic fare and skin soothing treatments, the real treat of this getaway was staying at the beautifully renovated Adelphi Hotel.

Located on Broadway which runs through town, this centrally located boutique hotel is stands out as the Historical Place it is, with columns and vintage windows reflective of its original opening in 1877. Upon entering, you're not only greeted by a friendly staff, but you're also taken back in time thanks to a luxe lobby with lush velvet couches and well arranged sitting areas. The reception area is seated low which subconsciously makes you feel more at home in relation to the standard high desk, standing reception where this is a disconnect between you and the individual welcoming you.

To the right you will find Morrissey's, the bar which often features live music and outside seating, and in the rear of the lobby, you can dine at Blue Hen which is glass-enclosed, making it light and bright for brunch/lunch. Let's be honest- I truly judge establishments by their bathrooms and this lobby bathroom did not disappoint. With individual stalls and doors (you know exactly what I am talking about, no one looking at your feet), you feel right at home with plush hand towels and scented soaps.

Believe it or not, we did eventually check-in. As soon as we opened the door to our room, I declared, "I want to live here." Every detail from the lobby extended up to the room and then some. We were lucky enough to be welcomed with a handwritten note and macaroons which was the perfect touch. The bedroom was well outfitted with usb ports and outlets galore which in 2018 is clutch. With a comfortable pull out couch in the living room, this deluxe room was well suited for three.

Again, my favorite part- the bathroom. Almost as large as the bedroom, this marble masterpiece had us fighting over who would get to shower first. With a standalone tub just waiting to be soaked in and a large shower, there was still room to dance around and enjoy the large mirrors and double sinks. Positioned behind a closed door was the toilet with a heated seat and front and back bidet. (Sidenote: If you've never experienced a bidet or you think they're weird, you're missing out) I could go on and on about this room but what made me want to really highlight this place was the service.

Upon returning from dinner at around midnight, we opened the pullout couch to find that the bed had not been made. Although the housekeeping staff had all gone home for the day, an employee came up to make the entire bed which before this moment was most definitely not in his job description. He did the entire thing with a smile and we had a great laugh together.

All the velvet couches and pretty cocktails in the world mean nothing if the people behind them are not equally as charming and that is why I will be back to the Adelphi Hotel. Check it out if you're in the area and definitely book ahead if you're planning on heading to Saratoga Springs when the horses are doing their thing.
